5 Reasons Why I Chose a Career at Cresta:

Before I get into the reasons why I chose to join Cresta, I want to take a moment and thank the entire organization at Rubrik from Bipul Sinha, Mike T., and Austin, on down. Y'all (now that I live in TX) will be missed.

And a special thanks to my 50+ customers who believed in me and Rubrik these past 4 years. I can't thank you enough for your continued support and partnership throughout the years and I wish all of you tremendous success.

Rubrik is a very special place and to be part of a company that had 300 employees, less than $75M in revenue when I started and grow to a massive 1,700 employees and $600M run rate is insane when you think about. It's rare that companies accomplish this in such a short period of time and the company is now on the cusp of a big IPO this year. The sky is the limit and as the CEO Bipul would say, "GO RUBRIK!"

"Every success story is a tale of constant adaption, revision, and change." - Richard Branson

I now embark on a new journey into a completely new industry that is exploding with growth and gaining lots of attention from VC firms. Enter Cresta, which helps sales agents become Experts on Day One® by providing live prompts on the best things to say during every customer interaction.

In every call center, there are reps who are more productive and efficient than their peers. Cresta's powerful AI learns what top performers do differently and uses real-time coaching and guidance to share these best practices across teams. The result is an expert at every customer touchpoint which drives more sales, improves customer care, and helps maintain retention.

So let's get to it. Here are the 5 reasons why I chose Cresta for the next chapter in my career:

1. I get to swing for the fences

For those of you who know me, you know that I'm a "startup guy." I thrive in hyper-growth companies that are in the hunt for new business and sell disruptive technology. However, the last two startups I joined were mid-stage already having a strong foundation, brand awareness, built out business units, and a couple hundred paying customers.

At both Okta and Rubrik, I was brought on to take a specific territory from zero to hero. The experience I got doing this twice in a row with great success has created the opportunity for me to take on a much bigger risk in my career.

Cresta is a Series A startup looking to solve a big problem in the customer service realm. As one of their early employees, I'm able to help build a company from the ground up and think and act bigger than ever before.

A big thanks to Matthew Mulqueen, Cresta's VP of Sales and CEO Zayd Enum for believing in me.

2. A chance to sell into new buying personas

I've been selling into the IT department for close to 17 years and it's time for a change.

Selling IT solutions can be a ton of fun as you are always learning new technology and the landscape changes rapidly which keeps it interesting and highly competitive. There is a lot about it that I will miss, especially the huge network I've created over the years.

However, the big network I established also created too much comfort. For me, I believe when things get too comfortable, you get complacent and stop evolving and getting better as an individual. It's similar to a muscle. If you stick with status quo, you're determined to get muscle atrophy (a decrease in muscle mass). By consistently challenging the muscle, you achieve muscle hypertrophy (increase in muscle mass) which is what I'm seeking in my career.

3. Artificial intelligence is exploding

According to Grand View Research, the global artificial intelligence market size was estimated at $39.9 billion in 2019 and expected to report $62.3 billion in 2020. The global artificial intelligence market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 42.2% from 2020 to 2027 to reach $733.6 billion by 2027!

"If we train AI to take over boring repetitive tasks, we can free humanity and reach new heights." - Sebastian Thrun

4. Backed by the best

When seeking out a startup to join, it's very important to research the investors backing the company and Cresta has two of the very best in Andreessen Horowitz (Ben Horowitz himself) and Greylock (Saam Motemedi).

I have familiarity with both as I was part of the a16z family at Okta (now a $35B public company) which also was part of Greylock's portfolio. Rubrik being another Greylock backed startup is on the verge of an IPO within the next 12 months and worth north of $5B.

Board and Advisors also include notables Mark Leslie, Sebastian Thrun (pioneer of Google's self-driving car), and Andy Bechtolsheim.

"If you're offered a seat on a rocket ship, don't ask what seat. Just get on!" - Sheryl Sanberg

5. The new era of working from home

According to Gartner, 80% of company leaders plan to permit working from home part-time and 47% will allow employees to work from home full-time. Moreover, in a PWC study of 669 CEOs surveyed, 78% agree that remote collaboration is here to stay for the long-term.

On top of that, more than $1 of every $5 is spent online right now - the highest e-commerce penetration on record. With consumers flocking to digital channels, customers are now interacting with remote contact center agents rather than store sales associates.

Cresta is positioned perfectly for this new era we live in as business has changed. Teams are quickly adapting to the new normal and with online traffic at all-time highs, it's critical that teams are enabled with the tools, training, and support to make the most of every conversation. Cresta can successfully address the increased customer demand and proactively capture sales.
